Blink and you'll miss it

I was browsing Stella McCartney's site in my search for some new workout clothes. I think I just wanted to torture myself by looking at her collection for Adidas, knowing full well that I'd never spend that much on clothes I sweat in no matter how cute they are. Anyway, I started poking around the rest of her site and came across this backstage video from FW0910.

If you skip to around 1:30 you'll see a quick exchange of looks between Freja and Magdalena. I just think this is cute because it gives us a small glimpse of the camaraderie between models backstage. I think many people are still under the assumption that models are bitchy, snobby, cut-throat people. Linda Evangelista didn't do much to dispel that stereotype with her infamous quote about not getting out of bed for less than $10,000 a day. But these days, with "model" holding a lower cache than it did back in the 90s, most girls genuinely seem down to earth and like they get along in their little model cabals.

They form bonds due to their shared experiences and it shows in the few backstage videos and photos that we get to see. In fact, I think we'd probably be surprised at all the different models friendships going on, simply because what we get to see backstage is only a tiny fraction of it all. If you're like me and you religiously read Tatiana the Anonymous Model's column at Jezebel, you'd know that some of her posts reflect and reaffirm that sense of camaraderie.

Anyway, sorry that there isn't any sound and that the video quality is so crappy. Normally, I wouldn't post something like this because it's kind of insignificant....literally blink and you will miss it. But it's a slow news day and regardless of what it does or doesn't mean in the grand scheme of intra-model interactions and friendships, I just think it's a sweet, funny moment. Maybe the Fragdalena pairing isn't such a far-fetched idea after all. Too bad it didn't get any votes. :(

And speaking of, the next round of voting will go up sometime later this week. Thanks to all who indulged my attempt at having some fun. :)

That 10k comment was a joke that Linda has apologized for over and over. Times were different then and models were in the spotlight. Nowadays, the general public doesn't even know who models like Freja are, nor do they care. Less attention on these models means the media is also less interested in the "dirt" - whether real or made up - on these girls (and it should be mentioned that in the era of the supermodel, there was no internet and the media was more obsessed with concocting made-up stories).

Today's model fans like to label their favorite models "down to earth" but the truth is that nobody really knows them. Hell, Freja could be a serial killer for all anyone knows. OK, it's highly doubtful but what I'm trying to say is that nobody really knows much about these girls.

But it seems to me like the pendulum is shifting again and the media is becoming more fascinated with models again. American Vogue has been name-dropping models like crazy again - just like the supermodel days. If the media goes model-crazy like they did in the late 80s to mid-90s, we're going to start seeing things about the models that we're probably not going to like. And most of it will be either made up or exaggerated.

^ No where in my post do I actually assert and purport to know that the models are down to earth and uber friendly. These were just my conclusions from my observations culled from the little videos, photos and blogs that we get access to. I thought I made that pretty clear.

And yes, it's absolutely true that we don't know the models that we're fans of. But after hearing about enough first hand accounts there comes a sort of fever pitch where you can get a general sense of whether someone is nice and friendly, or not.

Linda's uberbitchy comment was what made me a fan of hers.LOL
But really today's flock of models seem to have a good head on their collective shoulders.just look at today's premier supermodel Daria Werbowy( who i had the pleasure of meeting in a supermarket of all places!) she doesn't spew that nonsense about $10,000. she is a real sweetheart.

I'm jealous of your Daria encounter! Please do spill more details. I've always heard such great things about her, and she's my favorite (besides Freja of course).

i noticed her because she was TALL, taller than everyone around her.and she wore ribbed jeans. She basically looked like a fashionable bum lol.i was starstruck to be honest. aside of the usual suspects(Linda,Naomi and Cindy),Daria was the only supermodel i really knew about at the time.

I would have been starstruck as well. :) You should have said something to her! I've heard only good stories about how Daria reacts when approached by fans.
