Hello New York

Freja's first show of the season and first show in New York was Rag & Bone, where she did the honors of opening. Guess she's making up for missing the show last season due to illness or something of that nature.

Rag & Bone recently debuted a short documentary film directed by R. J. Cutler (of The September Issue fame) about their F/W 10.11 show held last February. In the film you can clearly see Freja's showcard on their model board, meaning she was most definitely slated to walk.

And all of the other models shown in the above screen cap definitely walked the show. But as we already established from the Hexa by Kuho behind the scenes videos, Freja was out sick. What's past is past, but it's always nice to know what really happened. There are so many unpredictable factors that sometimes it just feels good to be able to get a hold of one old mystery. :)

Anyway, Freja is definitely on the runways of NY but this time she's also out celebrating on its streets. She made an appearance last night at Karl's Chanel dinner feting the re-opening of the Chanel Soho Boutique, just like I hoped she would. Wearing her usual all-black ensemble, Freja looked a bit out of place among the other models who were dressed up in their very best dresses. But hey, would you expect anything else from Freja? Gotta hand it to her....she's consistent and loyal when it comes to her sartorial choices. An old interview she did comes to my mind, where she said that as a young girl she only wore one outfit consisting of Wrangler jeans and white tees. I guess you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. ;)

New York is well on it's way so enjoy the shows! And have a great Fashion's Night Out!

Model Perks

As if being tall, gorgeous and genetically blessed weren't enough, models get to enjoy some additional perks from the job. Many designers will pay girls in trade for walking in their runway shows. With some shows topping 60+ models, it's a way for designers to keep costs down. Now, whether you think this is a fair exchange is another story...

I guess it just depends on how you look at it. For girls like Freja, it's a definite perk. She's established and with 5 campaigns just this season, you could say that she's already set financially. (And often times established girls will actually get paid and then get free clothes on top of that.) For a girl just starting out, it's a different story. Agency fees take up what little she makes on various shoots, so only getting paid in clothes, shoes and/or accessories for endless hours of work (fittings, go-sees, etc...) is pretty much a rip-off. As you get older you begin to realize that one of life's biggest ironies is that things come free to people who can afford to pay for them. And if you can't afford to pay, things will cost you an arm and leg. Comme ci, comme ça...

Anyway, before I veer way off topic, Freja got some awesome perks this season and I'm totally jealous.

Balenciaga Leather Motorcycle Jacket

Rag & Bone Motorcycle Boots

Notice a theme here? Should we be on the lookout for an actual motorcycle now? :) The appearance of the jacket mid-fashion month tells us she picked it up after walking the Balenciaga show. Or it could have been a present, like some jackets last season. And most likely the same goes for the Rag & Bone boots. You can't deny, girl's got good taste.

Fans in High Places

It's no secret that Freja has a huge fan base scattered all over the world. However, what's becoming more apparent is that Freja has a huge fan base within the fashion industry as well. The latest to join the club are Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, who have always been very model friendly.
There’s nothing like the backstage at Rag & Bone to immediately make you feel those high school insecurities all over again. With hot, hot design duo Marcus Wainwright and David Neville and their muse Freja Beha looking cool as hell, and male models and hipsters alike sipping on Peroni and smoking cigs, it’s no surprise this collection is a favorite of the cliques du jour. In fact, when I asked Marcus about the inspiration behind the spring collection he said, “It’s very Rag & Bone, it’s Freja.” Can’t argue with that! On a side note, I did see a striking blond model (not one of the Sashas!) crying by the bathroom backstage, with Gucci Westman’s makeup masterpiece dripping down her face, further proof that it’s not easy being beautiful.
Now, I've always thought Freja was more of an Alexander Wang type of girl. She does live in his T by Alexander Wang line of shirts and tanks, but I think it's wonderful that designers are taking inspiration from her uber-cool, laid back personality. She does personify an effortless, cool vibe that many people strive to emanate, yet with Freja it doesn't feel contrived in the slightest.

With fans like these in high places I guess it's only a matter of time before more and more collections become "very Freja" and we all start looking like mini-clones. :)

And Here We Go!

As expected, Freja walked in the Rag & Bone show tonight. Fashion month has officially begun! From now until October it's going to be an absolute whirlwind through New York, London (!!), Milan and Paris. I hope you're ready!

Since I do have a day job to maintain, I'm just going to do one big update at the end of each city with occasional posts in between when it's necessary. I'm sure that everyone at tFS will practically be live-updating anyway, so my posting here after every show will be redundant for those of you who are members over there as well. Anyway, I'll try my best to keep up, so bear with me. New York fashion week only started yesterday and my eyes are already glazing over from image overload.

Just had to post one more shot. Look at her cracking a smile. :)

First Sighting

Hooray! Starting off fashion month with an appearance at Rag and Bone! And it looks like Freja is growing her hair out and she has bangs again. I think its at the odd in between length right now so it will be interesting to see how the stylists at shows deal with it. As much as I love her with short hair, I'm quite excited at the prospect of seeing Freja looking like this again in the near future:

:) These next few weeks are going to be exciting so hold on!
