We're in Milan

Freja walked in the Burberry Prorsum FW0910 show today. Finally! We have touchdown in Milan.

Frily vs. McBeha

While we wait for the first Milan sighting, I'd thought I have a little fun here.

In one corner we have Lily Donaldson, the blond hair, blue eyed sensation from the United Kingdom.

And in the other corner we have Catherine McNeil, the stunning Aussie with gorgeous feline features.

They're sparring over Freja Beha Erichsen, the lovely runway wonder from Denmark with killer legs and a dimpled smile that would melt the hardest of hearts.

Who wins?

Street Style Evolved

I think many of us have noticed a slight change in Freja's choice of street clothes lately. She's definitely going along with de rigeur model staples of black, leather, and skinny pants. And she also has an "it" bag in her studded, black Balenciaga. However, Freja keeps it simple and a little bit more masculine as she eschews the feminine blouses and killer 6-inch heels for neutral colored t-shirts and flat shoes. This is one of the things I admire about her. She seems to dress the way she wants to and not how she thinks a model should dress. There are no pretensions, and while her style has evolved, it still conveys who she is. It's this relaxed, insouciant vibe that is so captivating it leaves us wanting more. It's a pity she doesn't seem to like hamming it up for the cameras off duty, or else we could get more of these types of pictures.

For old time's sake, here is a look at the items that used to comprise Freja's old street style:

Trusty black and white Keffiyeh scarf? Check!

Black leather jacket? Check!

Ksubi Jeans? Check!

Brown Burberry bag? Check!

White Kawasakis or black Puma shoes? Check!

And the final, perfected look from head to toe.

On the Cover

Vogue Korea March 2009 shot by Jason Kibbler

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Vogue Nippon should take a lesson from Vogue Korea about how not to block your cover model's face with the title of your magazine. That being said, I love the simplicity of this cover. Even though the colors are muted, the pop of yellow text hints that spring is around the corner. Freja's face is absolutely gorgeous in this shot. The sleek hair style highlights her amazing cheekbones, and I like that she doesn't have a toughness about her expression like she usually does. So young and fresh! Hopefully this is just one of many more covers to come in 2009.

The Many Faces of Beauty

Out of all of the pictures that come out of fashion month, model beauty shots are some of my favorites. I love seeing models transform from one look to another under the magical wave of a brush. It's so interesting to see the how their faces take and adapt to the makeup in order to convey a designer's show concept; whether it be soft and glamorous or wild and edgy. Yet no matter how transformational the makeup is, you can always recognize your favorite model's features under it all. In addition to their long and lean bodies, models are models because they have faces that straddle the line between malleable palette and distinctive identity. Take a look below at how Freja's face embodies this notion wonderfully.

Milan Showcard

While the London shows go on, we can use this week to take a breather, mull over Freja's New York season and get ready to see her in Milan!

The Final Tally - New York

New York FW0910 - 12 shows total

It has been quite the exciting week, no?

It all started with Rag & Bone on Friday. Freja debuted longer hair and the return of fringe bangs that were her trademark when she first started out a few years ago.

On Saturday we had Alexander Wang. So far, Freja was two for two in terms of the big name shows. I don't know about you, but I was anxious the whole week because I kept expecting her to disappear all of a sudden like she disappeared from Milan last season.

Lucikly, on Sunday we got to see Freja four times. She had two looks at Herve Leger and two looks at Jonathan Saunders. The later show was a nice surprise as I don't think she's ever walked it before.

Monday was relatively quiet until the Marc Jacobs show that night. No surprise there as Freja's walked every Marc show since she started.

Freja made up for the calm day on Monday by walking in three shows on Tuesday. She showed up in two looks at the Diesel Black & Gold show, and she also made an appearance at Marc by Marc Jacobs, much to everyone's delight. The MbyMJ show usually has a cast comprised of lesser known girls so seeing Freja and the likes of Lily, Sasha, and Stam there was completely unanticipated. The day concluded with two runway looks at Narcisco Rodriguez.

Wednesday was completely quiet, and I thought my fears were coming to light. No Freja at Michael Kors or Proenza Schouler, both of which she's walked in the past (I think). Did she leave NY?

On Thursday we found out that the answer to that question was a resounding no. She walked in Tommy Hilfiger, Phi, Isaac Mizrahi, and Zac Posen. Her busiest day in New York! Freja was probably resting up on Wednesday knowing that she was going to be walking in four shows on Thursday. She's walked all of them in past seasons except for Isaac, so it was quite surprising to see her there--in two looks no less! And at Tommy I thought she looked particularily beautiful, looking as fresh as she did when she first hit the runways in 2005.

Today there were no Freja sightings, but it is the last day of New York Fashion Week so the girl is probably resting those tired feet and preparing for Milan. But more likely she's out dancing, partying and celebrating the end of a great week!

Freja doesn't walk in London so we get a little break before the whirlwind that is bound to be Milan and Paris. So in the meantime, what were your favorite looks in NY? Any upcoming shows you're dying to see Freja walk in? Any shows you'll be disappointed in if she doesn't?

BTW, most of the pictures are HQ so you can click on them to enlarge.
