Floating

You can add another one to the list! Freja stars in the Moncler Gamme Bleu F/W 10.11 ad campaign photographed by Steven Meisel, bringing her campaign count for the season to six.

Not only does Freja "float" through life; she also floats through the all white background of this campaign wearing all white clothing. Literal interpretation of her tattoo perhaps? ;) It just seems a bit comical to me to have her look as if she's floating along, and it also reminds me of an old movie quote (bonus points if you can guess what movie):

A: I can't believe you have that picture on your wall.
B: You like Chagall?
A: I do. It feels like how being in love should be. Floating through a dark blue sky.
B: With a goat playing the violin.
A: Yes - happiness isn't happiness without a violin-playing goat.

So I suppose that happiness isn't happiness unless you're pristinely floating in some indeterminate location wearing Moncler....at least that's what they would have you believe if they want you to buy the clothes.

To be honest, I'm still pretty overloaded from this season and I don't really know what to say anymore. I feel like I just keep on repeating myself and rehashing old ideas. Is it coming across that way? The only thing I really notice about this campaign is how much Freja's face stands out in comparison to the all white backdrop. It really pops, but it also looks a little awkward and I think that's due to her sprawled positions. When you lie down, flail your arms, or do something other than stand up straight, gravity does strange things to your face.

Anyway, this campaign is a nice surprise and I'm thrilled that Freja is still working with Meisel. He has a tendency to forget about girls after brief periods of fascination with them. She's going into the S/S 11 season strong, so I hope this means we can expect a good showing. I always get nervous for the S/S cycles because Freja usually doesn't do quite as well as she does during the F/W cycles. Need I remind you of S/S 08 and S/S 09? Let's just keep our fingers crossed that my paranoia has no grounds for existence here.

LOL @ the Notting Hill quote.
I actually kinda like the campaign, but I think it's mostly because it means that Meisel still likes Freja lol. I do like the fourth shot, but it's still a bit awkward.
I still think she looked pretty (a bit photoshopped though but oh well who isn't. At least it's not as bad as her Max Mara campaign -silence-)

Notting Hill! I think this shoot looks awkward... I don't know why but it just seems so random and Freja just makes me giggle in it! But none of that is meant in a bad way at all, it's just, random I guess.

Thank you for commenting me!

Need we worry ? If SS10 is an improvement compared to SS 09 and 08 then I think there's a positive upward tendency. Freja has been in the industry for 5 yrs in a row and surprisingly she's still strongly active (andro type usually doesn't last long, does it ? correct me if im wrong).
Anyway, Vogue UK and Paris have done her a great favor so it's reasonable for us (or well, at least me) to be optimistic about SS 11.

One more little thing, Im counting Freja's campaign for Chanel. She has had 5 rtw right ? I keep my fingers crossed for her still being Chanel's girl :)

Moncler shoots turned out to be very pleasing to the eyes when all the four photos are viewed at the same time lol. She looks so cozy in the fourth shoot that I want to hug her.

You guys got it! Notting Hill. :)

@ Float Ho: I don't know how long you've been following Freja, but yes, I'm always worried. Ever since she skipped out on those seasons the thought that she could do it again is always at the back of my mind. And she wasn't always androgynous, especially at the start of her career and the subsequent seasons after. I just feel like if you've been with Freja since the beginning, and seen her go through all the changes, you can never be quite sure what to expect from her. But it's good that you're optimistic....maybe it will balance out my pessimism. :)

I'm hoping Fashion Week brings some surprises from Freja.
I'm really hoping she walks Prada and LV again (since she missed it last season :( ) and I'm hoping that she walks Givenchy (I doubt it but I really hope so, I live on hope)

Im new to the Behan army, started some months ago and Im reading all her thread on tFS to dig deep and catch up :). I know you're very whole-hearted about her and I understand your worry.

Chanel lastest show kept me staying up late till 3AM just to see if Freja would show up and I literally almost burst to tear waiting for her late appearance swh in the middle of the show. So waiting for her appearance in a long season is not a pleasant experience.

But well, fingers crossed :).

@some anonymous: LV and Prada last season were all about the curvy 50s women (with bosom and hip, you know) so it's understandable if we didnt see Freja. So keep faith this season !

freja still has one more campaign coming up. according to her mother agency's blog. she has 7 campaigns this season. maybe the last one is the chanel eyewear or karl lagerfeld eyewear? i actually hope that freja will land a perfume or cosmetic campaign...

Yes, Im really hoping for a beauty campaign. In that case it'll be her first one, right ?

Rrose Sélavy said...

^Yup, it would be her first. A beauty campaign and being photographed by Slimane are just about the only things I can think of that Freja hasn't done yet.

I don't think Freja has been photographed by Steven Klein either. But I'd rather it stay that way...I don't like Klein at all.
