Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

As expected, Freja walked for the Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 show held earlier today in Paris. And she closed the Byzantine spectacle wearing a long, flowing coat with matching hair to boot.

Looking a little mean there Freja...

...there, that's better.

When was the last time she missed a Chanel show? Maybe the SS09 show two years ago when she missed all of Paris? Anyway, I'm beginning to think that Karl really sees Freja as the female equivalent of Baptiste. She travels with him, is involved in nearly all of his projects, and she's treated differently from all the other female models. Case in point: the way she was styled for this show. All of the other models had their hair put up in bee-hive bouffants, but Freja had hers down, styled to look the way it always looks nowadays.

I don't know if this special treatment from Karl is a good thing, or a bad thing. Probably a little bit of both. As one of you pointed out in the comments of this post, albeit jokingly, maybe Karl is trying to make Freja and Baptiste into twins....lol. I really just don't know. Why do you think Freja is getting treated differently? Perhaps it's a display of trust and comfort on Karl's part? Or maybe a request on Freja's part? It will be interesting to see how their working relationship further develops in the coming months. After Pirelli and this runway, will we continue to see Freja being used unconventionally? Your guess is as good as mine.

Is it just me or does she look a bit tired and worn out here? She should get some rest.

what i personally find strange is that Karl has positioned himself 3rd in line , walking after Freja and Baptiste ? i mean its not a normal thing for the designer to walk in the middle of the line up let alone someone of his stature ?

Freja and Baptiste are like Karl's children.lol. I saw the pirelli video and she is really at ease with him, it's nice. And from the last picture,Karl looks like a proud dad.lol. He really likes freja professionally and personally and that's really good.

I love the clothes! And it's great that Karl still adores Freja. BUT: No more messy mop, please!! :-)) I will never like "this thing" on her head.

He's making her into "his" girl. A 100 % chanel girl. Plus, i think they're reallo good friends. Maybe he knows, and how little girlish she is, She would never wear a dress og put her hair up like a princess. So maybe he sees too that this doesnt fit her personality, and lets her be more herself on the runway than usually.

Gertrud Hegelud, your Model of the Moment, did the show too. (btw her and Freja now have the same motheragency...)

@ Peter: Great observation and point. It is very strange. I just watched the video and it seems like Karl wanted the two of them to go out first. So maybe there's is something to the theory of special treatment?

@ anonymous above: Thanks for the info. I saw that she walked yesterday when I was checking the showlist on tFS. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! :)

It seems to me that Freja is the perennial muse for Karl Lagerfeld, and in return, receives more attention than any other model who walks for Chanel. Obviously it's a good thing; it's good for Freja, good for Chanel, and good for fashion in general. We need more models to serve as muses for our auteur designers. Just as certain actresses can serve as a muse for film directors. Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman anyone? Freja's recurring role as lead in Karl's work season after season is a testament not only to her mass appeal, but her cross over appeal. She can effortlessly create arresting images for those low budget indie ediotrials and then cross over to the more upscale gigs. It's a smart move on the their part (Chanel) because it exposes their brand to a different audience. Freja is about the only model working right now who can convey an image that the House of Chanel wants the public to see it as, which is young yet sophisticated, matronly august, elegantly rock n' roll, refined, and enviably aristocratic. Our beloved Freja is all of those things. (^_^)

Love your blog entries Rose. *hugs*
